Short answers about how Tavernly works. For the full text, read the about page, the terms and the privacy notice.
Is Tavernly free?
Yes. The games are free. There are no payments, no prizes and no ads. Some game pages link to a printed game. If you buy it through that link, we earn a small fee from the seller, and the price does not change for you.
Do I need an account?
No. You play as a guest, with no sign-up. We give you a name from a fixed word list and one of our pictures. You can sign in with Google or Discord if you want to bring your player to another device.
Do I need to download anything?
No. The games run in your browser.
How do I play with friends?
Open a private table and send the invite link. Your friends open the link and sit at your table as guests.
What if nobody is there to play with me?
Bots take the empty seats, so a game always starts. A bot is always marked as a bot. Bots play at three levels: easy, medium and hard.
How do I learn a game?
Every game has a short guided lesson called “Learn by playing”. You learn the rules by making real moves. It is optional.
How do I know a game is fair?
Before a game, you see a fingerprint of its secret seed. After the game, we show the seed itself. With the seed, anyone can check every card and every roll on the verify page.
Who can play, and can I chat?
You must be 13 or older. Nobody can type a message. The only words you can send are the fixed reactions in the game, and only adults see them turned on. Players aged 13 to 17 play with chat and hat tips turned off.
What happens if I leave a game?
A bot plays your seat, so the other players can finish. Your browser keeps a session, so you can return to your seat.
What do you keep about me?
As little as we can. We have no advertising and no tracking cookies. The privacy notice lists every item and the reason for it.
How do I report a problem?
Use the report page for a player, a safety concern or a bug. You do not need an account. For anything else, use the contact form.
