Learn the rules
| Plain word | Our name |
|---|---|
| piece | hero |
| space | room |
| region | wing |
| treasure | relic |
| base | camp |
| special power | trick |
In our version, you win by storming the rival camp or collecting relics.
- Set up. You each lead 24 heroes: 8 roles, with 3 of each. Set 4 aside unseen; shuffle the other 20 into your reserve. Draw 4 each; a random player starts.
- Pick one action. On your turn, draw or place a hero, then pass play to your rival. Your hand holds at most 8 heroes.
- Draw. Take 2 heroes from your reserve. Take only 1 if your hand has 7 or your reserve has 1. You cannot draw with a full hand or an empty reserve.
- Place a hero. Choose an empty room, your own top hero, or a strictly weaker rival top hero. The Halfling changes the strength rule. You may target the rival camp, never your own.
- Connect to your camp. Follow corridors through rooms where your heroes are on top. Empty rooms and rival heroes break your chain. The Rogue ignores this requirement except when storming.
- Stack on rivals. Put your new hero on top when you cover an occupied room. Only the top hero counts; a covered hero never acts again. A later break in your connection removes nothing.
- Use the trick. Resolve your hero's trick once, then the room's effect. At shrines a3 and c3, draw 1 if your hand has space and your reserve is not empty.
- Seal a wing. Hold all 4 rooms around it to take its remaining relics. You keep them even if you later lose a room. A trick can uncover a hero and seal a wing during your rival's turn.
- Win. Storm the connected rival camp or reach 6 relics. If you cannot draw or place, the game ends. Compare relics then.
| Win condition | What it takes |
|---|---|
| Storm the rival camp | One hero on it, with a connection |
| Reach the goal | 6 relics |
| Stuck | More relics wins; equal is a draw |
Our version has 15 rooms, 5 rows, 3 columns and 22 corridors. Its 8 wings hold 12 relics.
Choose your hero by its role:
| Role | Strength | Trick |
|---|---|---|
| Halfling | None | Covers any rival hero; any rival hero can cover it. No trick. |
| Bard | 1 | You draw at once. |
| Ranger | 2 | You may place one more hero at once. |
| Fighter | 3 | You may discard an adjacent rival top hero to its owner's discard pile. |
| Rogue | 4 | You may place without a connection, except to storm. |
| Wizard | 5 | A random hero from your rival's hand goes to their discard pile. |
| Cleric | 6 | You draw 1 hero. |
| Paladin | 7 | The strongest hero; no trick. |
Tips and warnings
- Read the log. What happened lists each move, so you can check your rival's last placement.
- Inspect open information. Every stack and discard pile is open. Your rival's hand shows only its size.
- Return a lifted hero. Tap it again or press Esc if you want to reconsider your choice.
- Use the keys. Keys 1 to 8 select a hero; arrow keys move over rooms, and Enter places it.
- Check your opponent. A bot carries a "bot" label, including when it fills an empty private seat.
Warning: Our version gives you 45 seconds per decision. If time runs out, the table plays for you.
