A Harmonies alternative
Larkhollow on Tavernly is our valley building game, with wooden tokens for trees, mountains and water. You arrange your board and bring animals home by completing card patterns. A game takes about 20 minutes, and the table shows live points as you build.
You need: A browser, no account, and players aged 13+. On your first visit, When were you born? asks for Month and Year; select them and press Continue.

Learn the rules of Larkhollow on Tavernly
You score your landscape and animal cards in Larkhollow on Tavernly. Each turn gives you a dish of tokens to place, plus optional animal actions. Plan where pieces go before you commit the turn.
| Plain word | Our name |
|---|---|
| A landscape piece | token: Water, Stone, Trunk, Leaf, Wheat, Roof |
| The tray of three tokens you take | dish |
| Your own board of 23 hexes | valley board |
| A building | cottage |
| A marker you put on a card | peg |
| Two or more touching Wheat | field |
Setup: Each player has a valley board. There are 32 animal cards; five appear in the row, or three for solo play.
Step 1: Take a dish. Choose one dish and take all three tokens. A multiplayer table has five dishes; a solo table has three.
Step 2: Place your tokens. Put them on your own board one at a time, on empty hexes or permitted stacks. Place all three before ending your turn.
- A tree is a Leaf on top of zero, one or two Trunks.
- A mountain is Stone stacked up to three high.
- A cottage is a Roof on top of one Trunk, Stone or Roof.
- Water and Wheat stand alone. Tokens never go underneath others.
Step 3: Take an animal card. This is optional, once per turn, while you hold fewer than four unfinished cards. Put a reserve peg on each slot of the card.
Step 4: Place a peg. When a card's pattern appears on your board, move its lowest covered slot's peg to the ringed target hex. You may repeat this action; turn patterns without flipping them, and add no tokens to a hex with a peg.
Step 5: End your turn. Press End turn (Space) to refill the dish and animal row. Until then, Undo (U) lets you revise your choices.
Step 6: Finish the game. The ending triggers when the bag cannot refill a dish or a board has two empty hexes or fewer. Every player receives the same number of turns.
Step 7: Compare totals. The highest score wins. If totals tie, the player who placed more pegs wins.
| What scores | Points |
|---|---|
| Tree | 1, 3 or 7 by height |
| Mountain | 1, 3 or 7 by height, only beside another mountain |
| Field | 5 per group, whatever its size |
| Cottage | 5 if at least three different token kinds touch it; count each neighbour's top token |
| River | Only your longest Water group: lengths 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 score 2, 5, 8, 11, 15; add 4 per token beyond 6 |
| Animal card | Highest uncovered slot's value; Otter slots are 2 / 4 / 8 |
Our version: These rules describe Larkhollow on Tavernly; our animals, patterns, numbers, names and look are our own.
Tips and warnings
- Finish your trees. A Trunk alone earns nothing; plan room for its Leaf.
- Keep unfinished cards. They still score and carry no penalty.
- Free a card space. A finished card stops counting toward your unfinished card limit.
- Read the move record. What happened lists every move.
- Check a rule at the table. Open How to play when you need a reminder.
- Use preset chat. Say something opens the available phrases.
Warning: With other people, you have 90 seconds per turn; if time expires, the server makes a safe move.
